We are looking for interns and volunteers to work on some exciting projects we have lined up for 2016 in the Toronto area. If you have an affinity for contemporary African culture and a passion for fashion or the arts, we have some awesome opportunities that you will definitely be interested in. 1. Research past events such as Afrotropolis Wonderland, MasqueradeTO, Palattes of Africa and The (Re)Generator Project to get a feel for the tone and scope of the projects that we produce.

Position: Communications Intern
****************************
Key Responsibilities:
Act as social media liaison. This will involve but is not limited to:
* Documenting the work in progress of the artists working on the projects
* Generating original content around the various projects

* Sending out personalized email PR blasts to blogs

* Following up on features and publicizing them on the site as well as on the twitter and facebook accounts of the artists involved
* Correcting any misinformation found online about the project
* Managing twitter accounts
* Managing tumblr account
Qualifications / Experience:
* Affinity for fashion, design and/or art
* Excellent communications skills (Written/verbal)
* Knowledge or interest in different cultures especially from Africa, South America and the Caribbean
* Social media campaign management experience useful but not required
* Deep engagement as a user of social media (blogs, facebook, twitter etc)
* Proficiency in Word, Excel and Outlook (or other email application)
* Ideal for marketing/PR/journalism student/recent graduate or new entrants to the fashion industry
Availability
* Minimum: two days a week (saturday is okay). 2 days on-site for 3 hours. Will increase in days leading up to project launches.
Terms:
The internship will last two months starting January 1st and the intern will be paid an honorarium upon project completion. Potential for more work opportunities thereafter.

Position: Studio Manager/Assistant to Artists
*************************************
Key Responsibilities:
Act as a personal assistant and manage the studio:
* External research to assist design process
* Hands on engagement assisting with various tasks related to the creation process
* Complete any miscellaneous research related to social media
* Some administrative duties (transcribing minutes, phone support etc).
* Scheduling the calendar of any activities taking place in the studio space such as workshops, media drop-ins etc.
* Managing the sample and artwork collection and keeping the studio space organized
Qualifications / Experience:
* Affinity for fashion and art
* Strong attention for detail and high production standards
* Excellent communications skills (Written/verbal)
* Knowledge or interest in world cultures especially Africa, South America and the Caribbean
* Studio or gallery experience (mounting/labelling) useful but not required
* Social media campaign management experience useful but not required
* Deep engagement as a user of social media (blogs, facebook, twitter etc)
* Proficiency in Word, Excel and Outlook (or other email application)
* Ideal for art/fashion/merchandising student/recent graduate or new entrants to the fashion industry
Availability
* Minimum: Two days a week (saturday is okay). 3 hours per day.

* Complete miscellaneous tasks related to any of the projects
* Assist with setup and tear down of projects
* Interact with the public

* Excellent communications skills (Written/verbal)
* Knowledge or interest in world cultures especially Africa, South America and the Caribbean
* Studio or gallery experience (mounting/labelling) useful but not required
* Deep engagement as a user of social media (blogs, facebook, twitter etc)
* Ideal for art/fashion/merchandising student/recent graduate or new entrants to the fashion industry
Availability/Terms: Volunteers will be needed for a total of 3-4 days in the months of January and February 2016. Potential for more work opportunities thereafter.
